  • As the Gateway Park Assistant Director of Research Operations, I am responsible for an extensive range of operations within the Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center. My main goal is to support the research in the state-of-the-art facility. This includes support to all Departments (Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, & Academic and Corporate Engagement) and Mass Biomedical Initiative tenants within the building. I work closely with all faculty, staff and students to help facilitate the academic and research goals of the faculty at LSBC. I am expected to meet the needs of 400+ students/researchers, 30+ Faculty / Administrative Assistants, 30+ staff throughout the entire 130,000 sq. ft. facility.

  • My work as Operations Manager for the Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center entails managing lab space, coordinating upgrades and repairs, maintaining equipment lists for scheduled maintenance, participating in new equipment installations, and training / supervising student help. The LSBC is a large facility that has unique needs for the over 400 students, 30 faculty, and 30 staff members. Each day, the job brings new challenges that must be overcome so research is uninterrupted.

  • Serve as primary receiver / distributor of supplies (both stock and individually ordered) for use by WPI research groups and departments in the building.
  • Ship hazardous materials under DOT / IATA laws and guidelines.
  • Support hazardous waste activities as stipulated by EOS manager. Participate in WPI’s hazardous materials training yearly and as warranted.
  • WPI – certified receiver of radioactive isotopes.
  • Interact with departmental purchases via multiple means of communication (email, verbal, shared e-drives, etc) to insure accurate receipt, routing, e-notifications and records of materials & supplies that are ordered by research groups.
  • Interact with research end users, vendors, and trades to facilitate infrastructure prep and eventual delivery and placement of specialized scientific equipment.
  • Field problems regarding building infrastructure / facilities from occupants. Enter work orders via SchoolDude follow up to completion. Act as liaison to Plant Services & Contract trades personnel.
  • Report to appropriate departments about gas cylinders.
  • Coordinate receiving with other companies within the building.
  • Other duties as assigned.
