My duties include:

- Clean and maintain the deck, common areas, and living quarters to promote a hygienic and organized workspace.

- Pick fish from nets, dress them for storage, and organize the catch effectively.

- Take wheel watches to monitor navigation and ensure the vessel's safety.

- Handle gear work, including setup, maintenance, and repairs to optimize fishing efficiency.

- Safely put the boat away after trips, following best practices for securing the vessel.

- Enter data on fish counts to keep accurate records for reporting and management.

- Create settlements for the crew and captain, ensuring fair distribution of earnings.

As the First Mate on a research vessel, I play a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations during our 10-12 day trips. My responsibilities encompass a range of tasks, from engine maintenance to data entry, all aimed at supporting our research missions.

Key Responsibilities:

-Perform general engine upkeep, including oil changes, fuel transfers, and routine cleaning to maintain optimal performance.

-Operate hydraulic winches and other heavy machinery safely and efficiently during our research activities.

-Handle data entry for trip reports, documenting weather conditions, fuel usage, safety drills, crew logs, and other daily reports to ensure accurate records.

-Take wheel watches, dedicating 12 hours per day to monitor navigation and maintain vessel safety.

-Assist in docking the vessel, ensuring safe and efficient berthing procedures.

-Keep common areas, the deck, and bunk rooms clean and organized for the comfort of the crew.
