REFERRALS ASSISTANT

COMMUNITY HEALTH CONNECTIONS
03.2021 - 01.2023
  • Providers would send all referral orders and diagnostic orders to the Referrals Inbox for Referral staff to work on. Insurance referrals and authorizations can take up to two weeks to get an approval or a denial. Once you initiate the request you need to follow it through until a decision has been made, the insurance authorization has been processed, and appointment has been made for the patient. You must have clear and descriptive documentation the patient's chart every time you worked on that referral. My responsibility as a Referrals Assistant was:
  • Initiating and obtaining insurance authorizations for patients to be seen at specialty offices, then providing that information to the office for the patient to be contacted for a future appointment.
  • Initiating and obtaining insurance authorizations for patients to get diagnostic testing that the provider ordered for the patient at an outpatient facility.
  • Calling outpatient facilities close to the patient or that accepts their insurance and setting up those appointments for the patient.
  • Calling patients with appointment information and instructions. Also, put that information in the mail.
  • Faxing orders, office notes, demographic, and insurance information to specialty offices or outpatient facilities.
  • Completing incoming insurance referral requests from the fax.
  • I was the back up for the referrals supervisor when she was unavailable, to answer questions or concerns from providers, managers, staff from other offices, and/or training new employees.
