Daisy Award Recipient

I am writing to nominate RN Maureen Goodwin for the DAISY Award in recognition of her extraordinary compassion and professionalism during my recent care at the Lowell VA Medical Center Pain Clinic. Following a spinal nerve ablation procedure, I experienced a vasovagal reaction, an intense wave of nausea, dizziness, bright lights, and profuse sweating. Though this was not my first time feeling this way post-procedure, it was nonetheless distressing and disorienting. In that moment, Maureen's care went far beyond routine. She immediately recognized the signs of my reaction and responded not only with clinical skill but with genuine empathy. She offered a basin as I struggled with immediate nausea, anticipating my needs before I could even voice them. She provided clean linen for my brow without hesitation, helping to calm my body and ease my discomfort. Most importantly, she stayed by my side the entire time, speaking in a calm and reassuring tone that helped ground me during my moment of great vulnerability. Although I couldn't apologize enough for what I couldn't control, she made me feel safe, respected, and human during my moment of distress. Again, I'm sorry. Maureen treated me with dignity and attentiveness, never rushing or making me feel like an inconvenience. Her actions were small in appearance, but the impact was profound. Her ability to combine clinical excellence with heartfelt compassion is exactly what the DAISY Award stands for, and she effortlessly demonstrated those while under her care. She didn't just do her job as a Nurse; she elevated my care experience through her innate skill, dignity, and humility.
