Moses Tetteh

This internship involves evaluating the ability of Nature-Based solutions to improve stormwater quality with regards to plastic pollution and develop education for effective green infrastructure management. My role here is to carryout research assistant duties by contributing to research already conducted by my supervisors. Led by: Shannon Hogan, Urban Harbors Institute and Dr. Juanita Urban-Rich, School for the Environment.

I'm responsible for the following tasks:

· Entering marine debris data into an excel database and processing the data

· Entering macro plastic debris from along the Neponset River into an excel database and processing the data

· Helping to digest soil samples collected from area raingardens so that microplastics can be counted.

This project is doing initial studies to determine sources of microplastics in the Neponset River and working with community scientists.

• Provided homework assistance using specific curriculum and materials.
• Supported students with helpful study habits and exam strategies.
• Collaborated with students to complete homework assignments, identify lagging skills, and correct weaknesses.
• Motivated students towards learning and studying to build self-confidence and reduce fear of failure.
• Worked closely with students in grades 9-12, helping to develop math, chemistry and essay writing skills.

• Engaged students by fostering greater sense of community and serving as role model, and mentor to students.
• Adhered to school schedules, regulations, policies and dress codes to promote safety and learning.
• Advocated on behalf of high school students to improve integration and satisfaction with school life.
• Contributed to development, planning and completion of project initiatives.
• Coordinated various events and activities to support operations of student organizations.
• Served as liaison between certain departments to implement new improvement plans and changes.
• Tutored up to 5 students each term in general mathematics.
• Improved student's compliance with dress code, activity participation, emotional and spiritual states and academic grades through dress code enforcement, occasional advising sessions, and tutoring.
