  • Coordinate WMO international efforts, including a network of international experts, and the development of capacities for delivering high-quality datasets for monitoring climate variability and climate change.
  • Lead the scientific coordination of the WMO Flagship Climate Reports on the state of the climate and global and regional scales.
  • Produce briefings, statements, and easy digests for use by international communities and parties at international conferences (such as the UNFCCC Conference of Parties), including the latest findings on the state of the climate, as well as the underpinning datasets and analysis.

  • Lead international efforts and projects for developing and publishing standards and recommended practices in the field of climate data management, data rescue, and digitization of historical climate records. (WMO-No. 1238, WMO-No. 1131)
  • Produce a list of service requirements for high-quality observations and data sets in support of the Global, Regional, and National Climate System Monitoring.
  • Lead the design and implementation of Climate Watch Systems in the regions through workshops, guidelines, and the provision of advice to National Meteorological Services and the WMO Regional Climate Centres.
  • Lead the design and setup of the High-Quality Global Data Management Framework for Climate (HQ-GDMFC), approved by the WMO Congress in 2015.
  • Development of Resource Requirements for Climate Data Rescue Projects.
  • Conduct numerous training and capacity-building workshops for developing and least developed countries on Climate Data Management Systems and Data Rescue.

Collaborate with dozens of international and continental agencies, funding agencies like World Bank and UNDP to set up the first of its kind Seasonal Climate Outlook Forums in West Africa and Eastern Africa. The approach and methodology were expanded to cover the entire African continent and elsewhere in Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.
